How To . . .
You may be familiar with how a WordPress blog works, and then again you may not. Here’s some tips to get you up to speed . . .
Naming Your Blog
You can use your user ID if you want, but its recommended that you use the main keyword phrase that best relates to your content for a blog name. So if you were wanting to write about “How to Remove Facial Hair,” you’d want your blog to be:
howtoremovefacialhair.rticlz.com
This will give you the best chance of ranking your blog high in the search engines.
Choosing a Theme
We’ve added close to 100 of them and they’ll all serve you well. To get one, go into your admin panel and click on “Presentation.”
There you’ll find thumbnails of all the themes we have available for you. Simply click on the thumbnail you like best. The system will load it up for you, and your blog will use that theme for your layout.
Widgets
Also in the Presentation page you’ll find the Widgets. Widgets let you change the sidebar of your blog. The number and type will depend on the theme you’ve chosen.
Some themes already have some widgets in place, but you can still move them around or change them at will. Just drag the widget elements you want to display on your blog from the bottom of the page to where you want them in your sidebar area.
Some widget will need some tweaking, like the text widget. Text widgets are cool because you can add just about anything into them. Throw in some AdSense code, a banner ad, some code to call up your Twitter posts, and just about anything else that’ll fit in your sidebar.
Plug Ins
We’ve added in some plug ins, though not too many. Most of them are designed to help you socialize your blog.
From the Admin page, click on Plugins and activate the ones you want to use. Most are explained right on the plugins page.
Posts and Pages
Posts are what the public will see right off the bat when they visit your blog. Pages are separate documents like this one that don’t get compiled into the viewing area of your blog.
You can make either by clicking on Write in the Admin page menu and choosing which in the sub-menu.
Options
Options are for changing the information about you, changing the way your visitors can interact with you, how some of your plugins work, etc.
Manage
Here you can manage your categories, blogroll, edit your posts, moderate some plugins, etc.
Comments
Pretty self explanatory. All comments coming in from your readers go here to await your approval or deletion.
Thanks for everything. Do you have a guide on how to post on the blog? I am totally new to this.
Thanks.
You would log into your blog and click on Write. Choose a category or create a new one. Make sure its checked off.
Put your title in the the Title box and your post in the text area below it. Click Publish.
Hi! Found out about this from 30DC
Thanks so much!
I wonder how I could redirect the default feed to go to my feedburner link?
Hi sxyshandy,
I just added the Feedburner plugin, so just go into your site admin and click on Plugins and activate it. Once activated, click on Options and modify it to suit your needs.
