Blog SEO Tips

Like anything else, there’s a right way and wrong way to add and maintain a blog on Rticlz.com. Here are some SEO tips to doing it effectively:

1. Your blog title should be the key phrase you want to target.

Using a silly name, or a total irrelevant title will not get you ranked very well in the search engines. Posting unrelated articles won’t help you either.

Stick to one topic, one key phrase. If your blog is about fly fishing, then call it flyfishing.rticlz.com. All posts to your blog should be about fly fishing.

2. Your posts should be optimized.

Always put your key phrase in the first and last paragraphs. Bold it in the first and italicize it in the last. Don’t repeat it within the body of your text too many times (two or three more times should be enough).

3. Make sure your content is relevant.

Putting “fly fishing” in the first and last paragraph of an article that’s about viagara isn’t going to get you anywhere. The search engines will see this easily and prevent you from ranking.

4. Don’t add too many links.

You want to use your blog to make your point about a topic. Preferably, by the time your readers are finished with your blog, they should be willing to listen to what you recommend. So use it to convince and add a link to a product or other recommended site only after you’re sure you’ve accomplished your goal.

You can add a link or two to your blogroll, but limit the number of links within the contents to one every other post if that many.

5. Socialize it.

Add in the plugins Gregarious and Ultimate Tag Warrior so your readers can vote on your site through the social networks. The search engines love these social sites and will take notice if your posts become popular.

Socializing your own blog will make it easier for your readers to cast their votes. So make sure you at least Digg each post and submit them to StumbleUpon and Propeller. We’ve also included a link to SocialMarker.com on the main page so you can submit to over 30 other networks.

A word to the wise . . .

Spambots and things of this nature aren’t going to get you anywhere. At Rtilcz.com, we take them down as soon as we see them, but even if we left them up, they won’t do you any good.

The search engines and people who use the Internet are getting fed up with black hat techniques and want good, solid content. Posts filled with little more than a keyword, or content that doesn’t make any sense wastes your time as well as everyone else’s.

Use Wordtracker or some other keyword finder, compare your keywords in Google Trends to find those that are searched by the largest number of people, and write good content about it.

That’s how you do well with a blog!
